New Year’s is my favorite time of the year. I love the way you can hit a reset button on your life, make new changes, and revamp your mindset for the next year. Since I began knitting, in addition to health, school, and personal resolutions, I’ve been making knitting goals.
It’s really helpful to map out your knitting for the year, and to pick projects that will challenge you! Of course, always leave room for new things- it’s totally OK to cast on the hot new pattern that might pop up on Ravelry later on in the year.
Here are my knitting resolutions for 2018.
1. Finish and Publish 2 New Designs.
I’m currently working on a spring sweater pattern but I have yet to complete the WIP for it. I plan on completing it hopefully by the end of January and publishing it by the end of March. I also want to work on a free design- either socks or a shawl.
2. Knit in Public Without Guilt.
I tend to be a very introverted and shy person. When it comes to knitting in public, I’m usually timid and that leads to me packing away the knitting in favor of a book. But why should knitting be any different than reading? It’s not embarrassing and I shouldn’t be ashamed!
3. Make a Lace Shawl.
I want to make a full out, lace weight, 800 billion stitches to cast off at the end lace shawl. I plan to finish it, too! I tend to shy away from long-term knitting projects like lace shawls because I’m impatient. But, I want to test my patience by knitting something that may not even be done by the end of the year!
4. Knit 3 Wardrobe Basics.
I’ve been reading the book Slow Knitting and there was a section in there about the founder of Fringe Supply Co. She talks about the benefits of making your own wardrobe, and it really inspired to start making wardrobe pieces that I would wear regularly myself. My goal is to knit a sweater, 2 pairs of socks, and a hat for myself.
5. Make Knitted Gifts for Christmas.
I’ve never actually made gifts for my family for Christmas, so I really want to make some things for the people I care about most. The thing on the top of my list is making my mom something because I know she would really appreciate a handmade knitted garment. I also want to knit my baby sister something.
6. Knit Something From My Handspun.
I’ve gotten back into the groove of spinning yarn, but I’ve never actually knit more than a swatch with my handspun. I really want to knit something with it, even if I just make gloves or a hat. I’m thinking of some pretty lace gloves or a beret.
These are my knitting goals for 2018. I would love to hear what you plan to knit or do in 2018 in the comments below!
