What Happened at the 2018 Vogue Knitting Live (and What I Would Do Next Time)

Is there a better way to kick of January 2018 then spending time with talented knitters and 3 FLOORS of yarn? No, my friend, there truly is not. I’m excited to share all about my experience at this year’s vogue knitting live!

I got the chance to take two classes while I was at the event, both on Sunday. The first class I took was with Franklin Habit and it was on photographing your fiber. I learned so much from this class- here are some before and afters.

Before…
And only 1 day after!

I also took a class on drawing for designers with Deborah Newton, which was beyond awesome. If you are interested in this topic, I found a similar class on Craftsy called Drawing Fashion Flats

There was a HUGE marketplace. I was only able to check out one of the floors but later found out that the marketplace was 3 whole floors. Wow.

Some tips I have for you if you go to Vogue Knitting Live next year:

  1. Have a budget ahead of time, and make a list of what types of yarn you want. There are tons of things to buy and doing this will prevent overwhelm.
  2. Take a class, if you can. They’re really great and really round out the experience.
  3. Look at the schedule for free events throughout the day, and take advantage of them!

I’ve been having a super busy month- if you notice a reduction in blog posts, that’s why! I hope that you enjoyed this post all about my 2018 VKL experience. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever been to VKL!

  1. Thanks for the advice, VKL is coming to Chicago this weekend, and I can’t decide whether to go one day or all 3. That photography class does sound very useful.

  2. I was there as well, and your advice about budget is on-point. I’ve never taken a class, but next year will have to for sure! I think my favorite part of the show is definitely the marketplace and seeing what North Light Fibers has in kits! I take a lot of photos and try to video the fashion shows. Why oh why does the organizer NOT put the fashion shows on the site for us to see afterwards as well?? Such an oversight! My least favorite part is the Rowan yarn toss, as people get very aggressive and ruin the experience for others.
